Cancún’s international airport is just a 50 minute drive from Playa del Carmen
Flights for Playa del Carmen land at Cancun International Airport. It’s an easy flight from North America. Flights from Miami take just under 2 hours, from New York it takes 4 hours 15 minutes. Los Angeles to Cancun is 4 hours 45 minutes.

The number of active airlines varies over time. But from 50 to 70 airlines operate from Cancún airport, with around 130 total destinations (about 100 international, mostly from the U.S. and Canada).
Once you land, Playa del Carmen is just a 45 minute drive away, down a smooth and modern highway.

Playa is accessible for a weekend from much of the U.S. and Canada. You can leave New York or Toronto or Houston in the morning and be on the beach for lunch.

Hop on the 45-minute ferry ride from Playa to Cozumel island and explore even more Caribbean beaches. There’s an airport on Cozumel too with direct flights to the U.S.
Just offshore from Playa lies the world’s second largest reef system. Fishing, diving, boating, and snorkeling are widely available through many guides and tour operators, catering to all skill levels.
On days when the beach isn’t on your schedule, there are modern theaters, malls, and it’s easy to pop to a cool-water cenote, a jungle-shrouded Mayan ruin, or take the ferry to Cozumel island. You could walk straight from your new luxury studio to the dock and make a day of it!
The expat community is huge, active and friendly, with plenty of happy hour gatherings, dinners out, as well as volunteer work, yoga classes, cultural events, organized trips… It doesn’t have to be a party all the time, by any means, though a lot of expats will tell you that with so many dining options they barely ever cook or stay in…Playa’s Golden Zone is your playground and living room…
