Montenegro Hosts Prestigious Ocean Race Finale in Kotor Bay

The Ocean Race Europe will arrive at Kotor Bay in September. Hosting the finale is a major coup for Kotor.
Kotor Bay will soon host one of sailing’s most prestigious races. The Ocean Race Europe 2025 finale is being held there in September, marking the Adriatic’s first appearance on this elite sailing circuit.
The Ocean Race has previously graced venues including Alicante, Cape Town, Newport Rhode Island, Genova, and Aarhus, placing Kotor’s Bay among sailing’s most distinguished destinations. The world-renowned sailing competition is often considered one of the sport’s “Big Three” alongside the America’s Cup and the Olympic Games.
The four-day event is expected to attract 96,000 visitors, further cementing Kotor’s reputation as a luxury maritime destination.
Kotor Continues to See Strong Tourism Growth

Tourism in Kotor is on a tear. The city welcomed an average of 15,000 visitors per day during the peak season.
Montenegro’s tourism industry delivered solid results in 2024, with the country welcoming 2.6 million tourist arrivals and recording 15.59 million overnight stays throughout the year, according to preliminary data from MONSTAT, the country’s statistical office. Kotor performed very well, averaging 15,000 visitors per day during the peak season.
Encouragingly, Montenegro successfully diversified its visitor base in 2024, with growth from several key markets. Particularly impressive was the growth from Turkey, with arrivals doubling compared to 2023, while the UK market showed a 25% increase from 2023. These gains highlight Montenegro’s success in strengthening both regional ties and expanding into new markets.
This national tourism success is particularly evident in Kotor, Montenegro’s crown jewel destination, where the city’s ability to attract such high visitor volumes stems from strategic planning and investment.
For example, a $1 billion, 25.5-mile motorway that opened in July 2022 has dramatically reduced travel time from Podgorica Airport—Montenegro’s main international gateway—to the Kotor region to under an hour.
With surging tourism numbers and strong infrastructure to support them, the future looks very bright for Kotor.
That’s all from me.
